A book of 90 stories selected by Roger D. Abrahams from across the African continent – from deep forests, broad savannahs, campsites, kraals and villages – to reveal both the diversity and interconnectedness of the people who live there. Divided into four parts, the book brings together creation myths and tales of ghosts, as well as ribald stories of mischief and magical adventures in the animal and human realms.
This illustrated book was inspired by the writings of Henry David Thoreau.
Written in 1854, the book Walden documents Thoreau's journey as he took life abode in the woods for two years. His diary reflected the simplified lifestyle as he explored the human spirit and the connection with nature. The pattern swatch below was inspired by my own observations with nature and are applied throughout the illustrations.
